Greenhouse Staging
Greenhouse staging units are pieces of equipment that are primarily used for nurturing your plants and providing more space to grow them in your greenhouse. Staging units come in the form of single layered benches, multi-tiered rows, and ones that have capillary benches and other features.
The idea is to place the plants on the staging unit where they will get the most nourishment. If a plant requires more sunlight then you most likely will put it where it can get the most sun. If an herb requires less sun and more shade then you can place it at the middle tier or bottom where other plants and rows may provide the needed shade.
You can classify staging units depending on the design, material, and function. Picking the right one will also depend on the type of greenhouse you’re setting up. The trick is to match the design of the staging units with the design of your greenhouse.
Permanent/Temporary Greenhouse Staging
One of the decisions you have to make is whether you will use temporary or permanent types of staging units. Greenhouses that are a bit crowded or where the space for the equipment and plants is a bit constrained you should resort to temporary staging units. These units are usually collapsible and are easy to set up. They are also a great choice for those who don’t use staging units that often.
On the other hand, those who designed their greenhouse primarily using tiers or rows of plants will find staging units to be quite helpful. Permanent staging units add a bit more space and give you additional options on how to arrange your garden. If you have ample space to set things up or you don’t move your plants around a lot then the permanent type of staging unit will work just right for you.
Slatted or Tray Finish
Depending on how you would like your greenhouse to look like, you can either use slatted or tray finishes. If you go for slatted staging units then choose the ones with 10 centimeter wide slats with each slat about two and a half centimeters apart. Slats allow good airflow.
If you want to use your greenhouse staging units as watering benches, be sure to use slatted staging units made of aluminum. On the other hand, tray finishes give an elegant look to your greenhouse. Depending on the design, trays serve various functions and features.
Dimensions
Though greenhouse staging units do have various dimensions depending on the model and manufacturer, you can have a general idea regarding average dimensions among the various brands. Standard widths range from around 600mm to 900mm. Standard widths range from 1,730mm to 2,950mm. Standard height is around 767mm or two feet and six inches.
Wood vs. Aluminum
More people prefer aluminum greenhouse staging units than wooden staging units. Aluminum units are so much lighter than wood, which makes them easier to carry and move around in the greenhouse. From the primary material, it is also obvious that aluminum units are water resistant.
Wooden greenhouse staging units are less water resistant. Even if you buy the ones that have a water resistant finish, it pales in comparison to the natural resistance of aluminum staging units. Wooden units are also remarkably more expensive than aluminum units. However, in terms of design and appearance, aluminum units look duller compared to wooden staging units. Those who prefer permanent staging units may opt for those made of wood than ones made out of aluminum.
Designs, Functions, and Accessories
Greenhouse staging units have various features, designs, and functions. Some staging have capillary benches that keeps the pots watered. Staging comes in single, double, and three tier designs. When you visit a garden center, you’re sure to find various finishes. There are also collapsible or foldable temporary staging.
Take note that if you’re looking for wooden staging, be sure to get the one that has the most water resistance. In case you go for aluminum staging you have hanging, free-standing, or integrated model. Some models have extra features like additional tiers, gravel trays, folding shelves, stepped display, foot plates, and seed trays.
